Covid-19 Updated Guidance

COVID-19 Updated Guidance for American Red Cross Training Providers May 25, 2021

The CDC recently released updated COVID-19 guidance stating: Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. It typically takes 2 weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19. You are not fully vaccinated until 2 weeks after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine or 2 weeks after a one-dose vaccine.

Pre-Screening

For continued safety, the American Red Cross still recommends screening all participants for acute illness.

Based on CDC guidance, this screening can be done with the following questions but does not require temperature screening.

1. Do you have symptoms of COVID-19/acute illness (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting or diarrhea)?

2. Have you tested positive for COVID-19 or been presumed to have COVID-19 and are any of the following present:

• It has been less than 10 days since your COVID symptoms began (or less than 10 days since your positive COVID test if having no symptoms); or

• You have had a fever in the last 24 hours; and/or

• You continue to experience symptoms of COVID (not including loss of taste or

smell)?

3. Are you currently under quarantine for any reason?

Participants who answer “Yes” to any of the above questions, should not attend class.
